The Smoking Tire goes behind the scenes with Tanner Foust on Mulholland Highway to see what it takes to put together his “Street Drift” Series

He prob. got like 40,000pts on that drift
5 people fail at drifting.
@c312eal DK gives conflicting advice depending on the interview and interviewer. Lets get real here yes it is much harder to setup a 130hp car to drift. Reason being is to get it where you can clutch kick the rear (one of the 3 methods of initating a drift) you have to have skinny tires. This creates a problem with the mechanical grip of the car (also one of the key factors of having a good drift car). Good drift cars have 1g of mechanical grip and the hp to overcome the rear tire grip.
@3:50 chp”damn wish my car could hustle like dat..”
what car is that?
I wonder what happens when his girlfriend pisses him off… does he go drive and start sliding around street roads lol. Fucking hilarious.
Other dirvers: Yah hello, um I see Tanner Foust sliding his new Scion tC around the corner of 18th and A Street.
Cop: We can’t catch that guy, are you insane?!
haha my name is also tanner haha!
that tc is so beautiful what kind of bodykit is that??
The cameraman at 1:19 probably crapped his shorts !!!!
It’s kinda hard to get an r/c helicopter out here to do video….lol
@c312eal Your spot on dude, if you wanna drift, buy a bog standard 180sx, get a good LSD, a hydraulic handbrake, and just strip everything outta the car… make it as light as possible!
that must suck to have those fucking small bumps in the middle of the road while drifting with a car like that.
aww…i thought you were gonna drive it!
@i5Alex well explains why Japanese are better. And why Ueo criticized american drifting when comparing it to Japan.
@c312eal i actually find it harder to drift with more power, i can’t control the throttle like on a 200bhp car.
@TheSmokingTire and the most basic drift cars dont require a min of 350hp. See heres comes the american passion for horsepower again. Amateur drift cars don’t require 350hp. But a good power to weight ratio, good brakes, good LSD, and some suspension work is all you need. Words straight from the man that started it all. Pro drifters in D1 japan use cars with 250hp. Look up Ueo’s AE86. He commented on American drifting and the level in which they are at.
@TheSmokingTire You should seen the Kazama vs Rhys Millen in a stock miata video. You’ll understand what I mean. Japanese = Drift anything with very high skill, Front wheel, 4WD with ATTESSA, underpowered rear wheel, pickup trucks, you name it, they drift it. Japanese are fundamentally better where as americans lack the fundamentals that they have.
@fastfa911 what are you talking about? abs? what drift car you know uses abs? if you look at the beginning of drift in japan they did’nt use wider tires, they just used what the car had and did it well. If your talkin about rally thats totally different sport and you make it sound like anybody including you can drift? Also the guys that started it are pro drivers in other fields as well you need to know your shit before you talk about having balls
@c312eal amen
This guy is one fucking amazing human being.
S I C K
@fastfa911 you can shut the fuck up. but you still had to search it up to watch even one little slow slide.
@dannymeadows I didn’t watch much. One slow slide was enough. Watch your language little boy!
@Infinity238 i know, but the chassis is based off of the avensis
@SabahAlev
Rear dif is of a 94 toyota supra twin turbo.
